Welcome to the Spring Valley, Ohio Community Library!
Our small-town library is non-profit and completely funded by our community donations. Step back in time before libraries were computerized. We are old school! To take your favorite book out, you have to sign it out like in the 1960-1970's. This library is charming with lots historical pictures of Spring Valley on the walls inside a 1880's house. Come check us out at 1 E. Walnut St in Spring Valley, Ohio.
Summer Programs
The spring valley community does summer programs for the village and township kids each year. Classes are usually in June and July during office hours. Children are invited to experience fun activities like cooking, science, making a pillowcase, designing tshirts or hats, painting classes, etc. Watch for details through The Village Pump newsletter that comes out each month or on posters displayed at the village post office.
The Village Pump Newsletter
The Village Pump, our Spring Valley newsletter is still being published. You can get it by email or in print at the Spring Valley Community Library. The newsletter comes out the first of every month and includes all local information and town activities that are coming up. A big thank you to Chris Urschel who collects and writes this newsletter. If you have any event to publish or wish to get on The Village Pump email list, contact the library at springvalleyohiolibrary@gmail.com
Fundraisers
We have several fundraisers throughout the year to help us keep our library doors open. One of them is the Spring Valley community calendar. We reach out to local and area businesses to advertise, then we contact village and township families to purchase yearly calendars. With a calendar purchase, patrons receive one calendar that includes 4 free listings (birthday, anniversary or memorial). Additional listings are .50 each. All of our village and township meetings are included on the calendar as well as special events throughout the year like the Easter egg hunt, Halloweenie party, Christmas in the village, Christmas eve service at Spring Valley Global Methodist Church, etc. We start working on calendar orders in July so the calendars are ready to be picked up the first weekend in October at the Spring Valley Potato Festival book sale at the library on 1 E. Walnut st.
Another annual fundraiser is the Spring Valley Potato Festival Book Sale. This popular event is made possible by the many people donating their slightly used books to our library. We sort these books and if it's one we would like to include in our library, we process and keep. Otherwise, the books are packed up and stored until October to be sold. Thankfully, there are thousands and thousands of books donated throughout the year. Our Spring Valley special at the book sale is a bag of books at a reasonable price. Books can be dropped off during office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:30a - 5:00p. You can also leave at our back porch anytime.
Our newest fundraiser is a cookbook. Recipes were collected from Spring Valley residents. Patrons included recipes that have been passed down through the generations or just a favorite recipe they'd like to share. This Spring Valley cookbook will be sold at the Spring Valley Potato Festival Book Sale on Saturday,
October 3rd and Sunday October 4th.
